PRESIDENT OF THE BRITISH PIG ASSOCIATION TO PRESENT THE MORETON SHOW PIG TROPHIES
The Chairman and Council of the Moreton Show are delighted to announce that the Marquess of Salisbury, the President of the British Pig Association, will be attending the Moreton Pig Show this year and presenting the trophies after judging.
Mervyn Forster and Julia Sibun, the organisers of the Pig Show are anticipating a high number of entries following the success of the Show in 2014. The classes will include the judging of a number of traditional and modern pig breeds throughout the day including Gloucestershire Old Spot, Tamworth, Middle White, Large White, British Lop, Welsh & Landrace, Oxford Sandy and Black, Large Black, British Saddleback, Duroc, Hampshire and Berkshire. The breed classes will culminate in the afternoon with the presentation of the Championship Trophy and Rosette to the Show Inter-Breed Champion and Reserve Champion.
In addition to the breed classes there will also be the Young Handler Classes with entries being taken on the day of the Show.
Further attractions for the visitors to the Pig Show will be the “Guess the Weight” Competition of the magnificent British Lop boar named “Pastie” owned by local young farmer James Brain, as well as watching the fun of the sows with their young litters in their pens.
The Oxford Sandy and Black Pig Society have once again announced that they will use the Show as a Qualifier for their Champion of Champions Competition taking place at the Royal Berkshire Show later in September this year.
The three eminent BPA Judges officiating the pig classes are Mr Phil Fowlie from Anglesey, Mr Robert Overend from Northern Ireland and Miss Hannah Rose from Somerset.
Julia Sibun commented “I am thrilled that we will have Lord and Lady Salisbury with us this year, supporting the Show and presenting the trophies, and I am anticipating a high number of entries across all the breeds”.
The Moreton Show takes place this year on Saturday 5th September.

According to reports Burwharton have made a fabulous effort to encourage pig entrants with a dedicated marquee and show ring. There were no GOS at the 2014 show so it would be nice to get some there this year and it would be a good place to begin your showing experience.
